Salt Lake City - Day 2

Another morning full of great information at the doctor's office.  Wow...it's amazing to be back in a research environment, even if we are the ones' being researched.  We were able to drop off T's shoes at Shriners this morning before seeing the Pediatric Geneticist to have a lift built for the right shoe.

We were able to speak with Dr. Stevenson, he's a colleague of Dr. Viskochil, for quite a while this morning and he was able to do a comprehensive physical exam of Travis.  Most of the information we learned from him are his thoughts on current research he's doing in the NF field.  Scott and I are now part of the blood work research study, to see how our elements of non-NF-1 blood compares/contrasts with those that have NF-1.  The person that does the ultrasounds and bone scans was in training today and not available to perform the scans.  We will hear back from the research group on Friday morning if the scan lady will be in training on Friday.  If they are not able to get the scans this time, they can do them if/when we come back to Salt Lake City.  The research group was also collected blood from Travis, he did really good considering the past few days.  A copy of Travis' MRIs were sent to the national cancer center/institute to see if T qualifies for the drug trial, we should hear back in 2 or so weeks if he meets the qualifications.  We were at the office for ~2.5 hours and left around noon, much shorter than yesterday.

At lunch we met with the Shriner that sponsored T, along with his wife and 2 of his kids.  They are a great family and we found out his wife and I both went to Cleveland Jr. High ~ 6 years apart.  Small world.  We got a tour of the Salt Lake Masonic temple, very neat place with amazing architecture.

We decided to go drive around the Salt Lake Valley to see the Great Salt Lake and then the mountains on the west side of the valley to a few ski areas.  While the snow is just starting to fall up in higher parts of the mountains, it's one step closer to the start of the ski season.  The fall colors along the trip were amazing and I hope to get pictures up within the next few days.

Another amazing dinner at a local restaurant and the dessert was the best.  We took a short stroll to get there and back, it was a beautiful night to be outside.

We will hear in the morning if the lady will be able to do T's bone scans tomorrow.  Either way we'll head home tomorrow, just the time we start back is to be determined.  Thank you again for your continued support and prayers.
