Travis did great for his MRI this afternoon and is playing in the tv room at the Ronald McDonald House. He was pretty full from his dinner (mainly dessert) last night when this morning rolled around. We were able to sleep in and hung out in the dining room watching cartoons while he had his popsicle and apple juice breakfast. Gotta love those clear liquid diets before sedation. While he wasn't thrilled to have the IV started when he was awake, he did great and just repeated his polite "No thank you" when they were drawing the rest of his blood for the research study from the start of the IV. The nurses commented on how brave his is and how he handled everything really good, especially for being 3. He got to pick a toy from the treasure box and they even found him another penguin to bring home.
Since he was not under general anesthesia in Salt Lake City (Children's in Denver does general anesthesia), I was able to be in the MRI room while him during the procedure. He was under conscious sedation, so he was out. Not sure of the difference between the drugs, but I'm thinking we won't have to pay for an anesthesiologist by going this route. It was a little funny sitting in a rocking chair with earplugs in my ears reading a magazine while the MRI machine clunked along like they do.
We got a CD copy of his MRI, but probably won't get to view it until we get back home tomorrow, I don't have access to a CD drive at the moment. He did pretty good coming out of sedation, it's different medicine than Denver, so it's a different way to wake up. He woke up enough to eat 4 oreos and drink juice and we were on our way out of Primary Children's. He had a groggy dinner at the Ronald McDonald house, but he's awake enough now to be playing cars. Hopefully, he'll sleep tonight.
The Geneticist will have their CD of the MRI overnighted to Bethesda tomorrow/Wed and we probably won't know an amount of plexiform growth until Monday. If he still qualifies for the clinical trial based on the July-Oct MRI comparisons, we'll need to decide about the clinical trial pretty quick.
For now, he's happy and doing good...nothing a few cookies can't make better at the moment. Thank you again for your prayers, thoughts, and support.
That's cool that you got to be in the room with him. And how nice that they use different sedation. Sounds like it was a lot easier on him than the kind they use in Denver.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe drive home, and hopefully we'll see you guys soon! :)
What a polite little kid! I can't believe he said, "No thank you," when they were giving him an IV. Very impressive and so cute.
