Travis had his 2nd blood draw to check his rapamycin level yesterday morning. Unfortunately for Travis, they had to poke him 4 times before a vein cooperated. He was very brave through the whole ordeal and went right to playing with his toy the nurses gave him when they finally got the blood. I'm not sure why there was such difficulty this time getting blood, but we were there for almost an hour and 3 different people tried to get the draw. Travis holds pretty still for the pokes and we are there to help hold his arm still, he's not wildly swinging his arms or body around. Less than an hour later a friend asked him if he had a blood draw and Travis said "No". Hopefully he was not too traumatized.
Dr. Viskochil called yesterday to let us know the leads of the study want to increase Travis' rapamycin dose from 0.56 to 0.9. Since Travis' drug blood level was almost half of the target trough level at the first blood draw, his dose will almost double. This dose increase is not surprising and even after we find the right level his dose may need to be adjusted as he gets bigger. Dr. Viskochil wanted to know how Travis is doing and if we are noticing any side effects from the medicine. So far, so good, and hopefully that trend continues with the increased dosage.
Scott's mom and dad arrived yesterday and we are enjoying having them in town. Travis and I head back to Salt Lake City on Thursday for his end of course 1 exam. Wow...we're already in the 4th week of the first course. We appreciate all your prayers, thoughts and support.
