Travis continues to do well on the Rapamycin clinical drug trial. He had his first blood draw last Friday to measure the trough (lowest level) of the medicine in his system. Since the lab we have to send the blood work is closed on the weekends, we had to wait until Monday to overnight his blood. We are provided with all the materials to ship the blood, so no shipping expense for us. We got those first results today.
Travis' first blood draw results showed that the drug level is below the target range set for him. Apparently this is fairly common for starting out on the study. This means Travis will have another blood draw this Friday morning to see how his level has changed over the week. Hopefully his level this time will be in the target range. He has to have 2 consecutive weekly lab results in the target range before he can move to have blood work done only at the end of each course (4 weeks).
During the first 3 months Travis is on the drug trial, he will have to see his geneticist in Salt Lake City at the end of each course. These are exams to check his vitals and see how he is doing. After those 3 monthly exams, he will only need to be seen after every 3 courses. This Thursday (12/2) will be the end of the 3rd week of his first course. Wow, the time has flown by. Travis and I will be heading to Salt Lake City in a week for his exam and we can get the blood work and other labs done in SLC while we are there.
We appreciate all your thoughts, prayers, support for Travis and our family. Thank you.
Thanks Kelly. We will be hoping for good weather.
