After 5 Injections

Wow...as before, the time flies by each week while on the clinical trial. Thankfully Travis' body continues to adjust to the Peg-interferon each week and the high fevers stay away with the Tylenol/Ibuprofen plan.  :) His temperature remains below 101.0F after injections. Travis amazes us with his enthusiasm for life and determination to keep moving forward. If you haven't had a chance, please check out the Miracle Flights for Kids blog about Travis (click here). Their flight support allowed Travis and I to travel to the NIH at no charge.

No kid (or adult) enjoys receiving a shot, yet Travis remains brave and holds still during the injection. That makes it easier for both of us. Travis started coughing after the 4th injection, the cough kept him up most of the night. We talked to the research nurse at the NIH and T saw his pediatrician for a check, both felt the cough was most likely from the coughing cold Nolan battled the for the previous week. The cough returned some after the 5th injection, but not to the degree after the 4th injection. We will ask Dr. Afify about the cough at Travis' 6 week appointment on Tuesday. The research nurse commented that a cough is a lesser-known side effect of Peg-interferon.

Travis' fatigue after each shot continues to lesson each week. You can notice that he tires a little easier, nothing like after the first 3 injections where he napped/rested in bed in the afternoons. This weekend Travis spent most of Saturday at the hockey rink cheering on his brothers in their last hockey tournament of the season. The tournament was near his friend Jake's house, so Travis spent some time at Jake's house playing...those 2 are so great together. :)

He wanted a "white sprinkled" donut...

Having fun after 5th injection
:)
Travis wanted to try a "white sprinkled" donut after the most recent injection. He discovered he's not a fan of coconut donuts, we did have a sprinkled donut hole on standby that worked. The routine of administering the shot at school works, we use the "nurses" room off the office. Many thanks to Deb for being willing to hold Travis for his comfort, he even finds her when the medicine is mixed.

Thank you for the continued thoughts and prayers for our family.
