We stopped first at the American History Museum, lots of great historical pieces to find there including the ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz", original Kermit muppet, Ben Franklin's cane, Apollo Ohno's speed skates from the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and so much more. Travis' liked seeing the flag that was flying when Francis Scott Key penned the words to the "Star-Spangled Banner", he went through that exhibit twice (photos were not allowed). The LEGO American flag was also pretty cool.
We then traveled to the Lincoln Memorial and showed T the biggest chair he would ever see. Off to the Vietnam War Memorial and you get chills walking past all the names of our fellow Americans. I had a MIA/POW bracelet years ago and looked up the name "Donald E Westbrook" on the wall. While I don't know his family, it is a name that stays with me. We also viewed famous buildings as we traveled into and out of DC: the Kenndey Center, Watergate, Jefferson Memorial, World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and more.
We returned to the Children's Inn just in time to see the start of the final NASCAR race of the season. Travis cheered on his favorite driver, Kyle Busch, throughout the entire race. You could see the excitement building in T as Kyle took the lead toward the end of the race and won the race and the Sprint Cup Championship!! Next week will be a blast!
