First Day of 2nd Grade

Travis started 2nd grade a little more than a week ago and really likes his teacher and new school. :)  While he was nervous and missed his friends at his former school, he did great and has started making new friends. Ms. Callister, his teacher, is very nice and more than willing to learn how best to help Travis succeed at school/life. She enjoys having Travis in her class and he likes her too. She even joined us at the NF Walk. (The teacher we met at the IEP meeting this spring moved to a different position in the school over the summer.)

We are ever thankful and grateful for Travis' Kindergarten and 1st grade teacher, Ms. Carla both years, and all her support for T's learning (and the other students in her class). Travis made great gains in confidence, skills, and more that fully prepared him for the transition this year, school years to come, and in life.

One of Travis' classmates is a neighborhood friend that lives 2 houses up the street. This made the transition to school and making new friends easier. As in prior years, T has a class helper who accompanies T on the elevator, holds doors, etc. His class is learning life concepts, including learning to be a bucket filler and not a "bucket dipper". As in prior years, we spoke to the class about T, his powerchair, walker, cool brace, shoe lift, etc near the beginning of the first day. The class was interested to learn about Travis and, as always, had great questions.

This transition has been fairly smooth and it's nice to see the students at his new school treat him respectfully/look out for him like the students at his former school. We are incredibly fortunate to have 2 wonderful teachers for Travis in his school career and caring, understanding staff at both schools. Thank you for all the prayers, support, thoughts as we traveled through this part of T's journey.
