Overall Travis had a good appointment with the urologist on Wednesday. As with so many things with NF, we wait and see. While the current issue with Travis is a decline from normal, he's not having pain nor blood and that is a very good thing. The doctor sees other NF1 patients like Travis and observed a cyclical process with the issue T's experiencing now and gets better without medical intervention. The doctor wants to wait and see how things pan out over the next 3-6 months and let him know if T changes for the worse. He said the current issue could be due to the plexiform growing. The plexi will grow as T grows, so some growth is not unexpected.
While Travis' current issue is a change from normal, the urologist doesn't want to do further tests at this time. The doc looked over T's MRI from October and gave us good news, part of the reason for his wait and see approach. Travis' plexiform doesn't affect his ureter nor his kidneys! Yes! While the tumor is extensive in T's pelvis it doesn't look like it directly affects between the kidneys and bladder. Since this is a nerve tumor, the signal the nerves send could be compromised, but that wouldn't affect T's current issue. The doc says he sees patients where there is function on one side and those patients don't have T's issue.
T's next MRI is Jan 5th, so they'll check that for any changes. Otherwise, we'll wait and see what happens and hopefully see a return to a more normal function.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you for all the prayers and support this year. We are thankful to be close to Travis' medical care and to God for providing all he has for us.
