Today's Geneticist Appointment

Travis had his end of course 12 exam with Dr. Viskochil this afternoon.  Travis had fun with Dr. "V" during most of the exam and helped the doctor with the leg measurements.  We had several concerns appear over the past 3 months that may due to NF or may be because he's 4.  He's been whining more and gets frustrated easier, most of his venting is directed at mom.  I noticed the other week that he has another irregular cafe'-au-lait spot on his lower left leg and there is darker hair growing from that spot.  That could be indicative of another plexiform or not.  He's more sensitive in his diaper region as well.  The concern could be that he's 4 and more self aware or that the plexiform has invaded that area and is now causing issues.  Travis even strongly complained when the geneticist examined that area, T has not done that before.  However, there are other indications that lead us to think that that area may be unaffected and lean toward self awareness.  Dr. Viskochil also felt the bump on Travis' left tibia, this is the spot that was identified at Shriners in early July as a probable calcifying hematoma from the fracture.  I told Dr. V that the bump looks smaller than when the cast was removed, we'll see more at Travis' regular Shriners appointment in early November (hopefully not before then, see below).

What all this means...Travis will have a MRI this month.  There was a chance that he could have skipped this MRI since he's now to the point in the trial where the trial MRIs are every ~6 months.  However, he could still have clinical MRIs every 3 months.  The MRI scheduling office was closed when we finished the exam today (Mon), so I'll call in the morning to see when that can be set up.

Travis' triglycerides were WAY elevated this time, so he will have blood work done when he's having the MRI to retest that level.  We're all hoping it was a false reading and we don't have to intervene with a different medicine.

This morning on the way down the stairs to get to the car to go to Pre-K, he stepped awkwardly (I'm guessing) and did something to his left leg.  He cried for ~10 minutes, nothing like when he fractured his leg.  He didn't want to walk at Pre-K, but was content to play.  They didn't call me, so that's a good sign.  He did cruise a few steps in the exam room this afternoon holding on to the exam table.  When he walked holding hands, it did look awkward.  Scott said he did walk some for him tonight, go figure.  If Travis isn't walking by Wednesday morning, then I'm to call Shriners.

Dr. Viskochil watched "Cars" and talked with Travis about the movie.  He's such an amazing doctor that truly cares about his patients and their families.  Thank you everyone for your continued supports, prayers, and thoughts for our family.
