Safe Travels to Salt Lake City and the Ball is Rolling

Travis and I had a safe trip to Salt Lake City today.  Laramie Summit was a little icy and there were a few slick spots west of Laramie.  Otherwise, very nice roads and any snow that we drove through wasn't enough to even turn on the wipers.  Travis enjoyed watching his movies and singing along the drive.

We met up with the research coordinator as soon as we arrived in town to sign the consent form for the rapamycin clinical drug trial and go over details of the study (how to give the medicine, make sure the doses are 12 hours apart, the diary/journal/log we are to use and bring with us on our trips, blood draw details, the dates when we will need to come back to Salt Lake City, and other details that come along with participating in this clinical drug trial).  The Ronald McDonald House was full tonight, hopefully a space will open up for us tomorrow.  Travis said he wanted a quesadilla and a race car cup...the Red Iguana...for dinner, so off we went.  Then it was off for ice cream, not the big monster dessert tonight, and check in the hotel.

Tomorrow morning we go over to Primary Children's to have Travis' initial blood draw for this trial.  He will have to do a 12 hour fast for most of his blood work in this trial.  Luckily we have the orders for the blood work and can get that done then eat breakfast.  His trial initial exam appointment is late in the morning and could last a little while since he hasn't seen this geneticist yet.  (His lead Geneticist will be out of the country until next Thursday)

Friday morning we will meet with the research coordinator and get the medicine as long as the blood work looks good.  Travis will start taking the rapamycin on Friday night; so, here we go...

While this is the right path for Travis' medical care, it a journey I wish no one had to travel on.  However, reality dictates that we are to be here at this time and we are continually strengthened on our journey through the prayers, support, and thoughts from our family, friends, and those that share a concern for Travis.  We could not do this journey alone and I'm thankful for all your support.
